Great Lakes Edge Top 10 Adventure and Photos from 2016

Instagram has quickly become one of my favorite social media sites. A lot less complaining and more pictures showcasing the outdoors. Some of you guys are unreal with a camera or your phone, wow! I took a lot of pictures this year while on the water or in the woods and loved every minute of it. At the end of the year, one of my favorite things to do is go over the pictures and go back to those adventures in my head. Here are my top 10 pictures and favorite memories.

10. Birds
I put these pictures together because there was no much to the memory other than seeing these birds. I have always wanted to get a picture of an eagle flying away with a fish in its mouth. I would have never thought it would happen at our cottage, Blissful Lake. Another bucket list item was taking a picture of a snowy owl. My mom has become quite the bird person lately and received word that there were snowy owls in certain sections of the state. So we went looking for one. To my surprise, we ended up finding one.

9. Steelhead Camp
This is always an adventure. This year we had the worse steelhead weather of the year. Mother nature was no nice. Highs in the 80’s and then couple days later, lows in the 20’s. As a group, we usually will put up pretty decent numbers. This time we did very poorly. Because of the struggle, it was something we will always remember. We actually spent more time at the cabin than anything.

8. Muskegon Sunset
What can I say? This picture is just crazy awesome. A jet wash in the reflective image of a sunset. I don’t even remember how the fishing was that night but I remember this pictures.

7. Rob’s Last Minute Deer
Rob had hunted a decent amount all season long but had no luck. It was the last day and we headed out with our bows. With 10 minutes left of the season, Rob put a killing shot on this deer. It was an awesome hunt!

6. Salmon Camp
Due to the DNR slashing salmon numbers and bad weather the last few year, salmon fishing in Michigan has become really tough. The big number days are gone. However, we still had out salmon camp and had a blast. If I would have fished for the first hour of the trip and the last 2 hours before I had to head home, I would have hooked more fish then the time in between. It was a great trip fishing with my buddy Selle.

5. Noah and Tyler
These little dudes I have been fishing with the last couple years. They have become quite a little fishing dudes. I can’t wait to see the fish they catch this year.

4. Oscoda Walleye with my Dad
This year I was able to fish with my dad a decent amount. We had a lot of great trips this year. On this particular trip, I knew nothing about fishing walleye in Oscoda. After awhile, I was able to figure them out and we put 3 out of 4 in the boat. I really hope I can get out there and fish it again this year.

3. Lake Trout With my Parents
We had dragged my boat up to TC for a little getaway. At the last minute, I was given some advice on where to go. We slipped the boat in the water. Right away my mom landed this 13 lb Lake Trout. We struggled for the next few hours. Once we got back to the shallows, we managed to hook 7 more fish landing 4 more. It was a great trip and one I’ll remember for a long time.

2. My Buck

It was a very tough year deer hunting. I thought it would be much better than it was. Luckily, I was able to shoot one of the two shooters that I saw on the same day. It was an incredible hunt.

1. Captains License
The highlight of my year was finally getting my 25-ton Captains license. I was able to spend many days on the water guiding over 100 people. One of the big highlights was a client catching a 52-inch muskie.
I can’t wait for another season with Lakeside Fishing Charters.

Honorable mentions: Blissful Lake Cottages

It was a great year at our cottage. We bought a cottage in spring of 2015. It was already a nice cottage but we wanted to make it a lot better for our guest. We put many hours into it and also enjoyed up north while at it. We were able to get it on the market right before July 4th weekend. I hope many of you were able to enjoy it.
